Don Coscarelli to direct new film
Coscarelli to direct 'John Dies At The End' http://fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=5950
Well I suppose this puts Phantasm V in the same basket with Bubba Nosferatu as developed projects with an undetermined start date but that refuse to die.
For those disheartened by this news, know that Coscarelli never calls a project dead unless it really is. He and the phamily aren't doing that with Phantasm V yet so that's a good sign.
Film Cell Offer Ending Soon
All good things must come to an end and such is the case with the film cell offer. February 29 will be the last day I accept film cell display requests. I've had a very good run with this campaign and I'm ready to be done with it. I've had to focus so much of my time and energy on these requests that The Phantasm Archives has suffered from a lack of updates as a result.
A few notes about this, - I don't take requests for cell displays. You get what I give you. - I'm out of Reggie, the Tall Man and the silver sphere. - Keep in mind that you can only send one letter per week to receive a film cell.
And that's it. If I owe you film cell displays, please bear with me. Anchor Bay should well know by now that there is a demand for this film. The ball is in their court.
Baldwin Speaks Up On P5
You must excuse my tardiness in posting this news to Phantasm5.com, but if you tune in to Episode #3 of The Phantasm Archives Podcast you can hear the elusive A. Michael Baldwin chatting about a range of topics from Phantasm II to Phantasm V! Michael reveals that the entire script was filmed at the cast reading using a three-camera setup so in essence.... the film actually exists right now in some rough draft, pre-production form. Don't misinterpret that... because they haven't shot a frame of footage yet.... but they've shot the cast reading the script and created digital backgrounds and effects for it. That's exciting any way you slice it. I can only hope that we someday see more of this footage than the measly 20 seconds already released in the Alamo Drafthouse video.
Listen to the show here.
I also asked Michael something on the minds of phans everywhere and this part I didn't put in the fifteen minute podcast. "Do you honestly think we're going to see a new Phantasm movie?" and he gave me a serious reply. Click here to listen to what he said.
This is fantastic news, my friends.
Phantasm.com Teases P5
Today I received an order I had placed from the official Phantasm store (a Don Coscarelli signed copy of Stephen Romano's comic if you must know) and I noticed an interesting package insert. Contained within was a flyer with images of the Tall Man and Elvis/JFK/Bubba Ho-Tep. It had the following to say about P5:
"Is another Phantasm sequel coming? Yes, no..., maybe? Stay tuned to phantasm.com for all the news in the Phantasm world."
You can see the flyer to your right (click the thumbnail to enlarge it). It also teased the hopefully still upcoming Bubba Nosferatu as well. If you haven't been to the new and improved Phantasm.com store, what are you waiting for? Visit Phantasm.com today.
Rue-Morgue Mentions P5.com
Many thanks to the fine people at Rue-Morgue horror culture and entertainment magazine for giving the Phantasm V Hype website a good word in their latest issue (#75 with Sweeney Todd adorning the cover). When I learned of their mentioning us, I simply had to spruce up the website a little bit with prettier graphics so please excuse this thirteenth design change to those who've been here before.
If you're one of the eleventybillion people hitting up the website from having just read about it - it's true - I will mail you a 35mm Phantasm Film Cell Display if you write Anchor Bay a letter asking for a new Phantasm movie. Click the above 'Write Anchor Bay Campaign' for more information.
P5 Writer on the Archives Podcast
The second episode of The Phantasm Archives Podcast has a very special guest... the screenwriter of Phantasm V himself, Stephen Romano!
Stephen discusses with myself and John Klyza topics including Phantasm: Oblivion, the Phantasm comic book and his upcoming book project, Shock Festival. There isn't much talk of the new sequel other than Romano saying he hasn't worked much on the new Phantasm movie lately because he's based in Texas and not California. According to him, Don Coscarelli is handling the preproduction of P5 in California along with Bubba Nosferatu and another untitled monster movie.

Reminder: Phantasm-Community
This isn't so much a news announcement as it is simply reminding the readership of Phantasm5.com that this website has a jointly-held fan forum with The Phantasm Archives website called Phantasm-Community. If you're up for a little fan interaction and the dweebs hanging out on the IMDB forums aren't satisfying that, I recommend you give us a try. We're 71 members and almost 5,000 posts strong and growing.
And while I'm not ordinarily in the habit of name dropping, I will tell you that Reggie Bannister and his lovely wife Gigi both have accounts on 'Community' and if you head to the forum now, you can see their hilarious Holiday greeting to the phans (requires flash to view).
Catch you on the forum!
