Numerous Phantasmic Updates
June 16, 2008
Sometimes things happen so fast that
it's impossible to even get word out about them. Such was the case last
night when WGN Radio out of Chicago decided to put together an on-air
Phantasm reunion! I barely got a call giving enough notice to skid
tires back home and record the show for posterity.... and for you fine
folks.
The lineup was the elusive A. Michael Baldwin, the cool-as-ice Reggie
Bannister, the hot-as-fire Kat Lester and the nicest guy you
could hope to meet, Angus Scrimm. Nick Digilio was the radio host that
put this fantastic show together.
I've put the first half-hour online in
MP3 format and you can find it HERE.
A. Michael Baldwin used this
opportunity to announce his latest project. He's directing and
producing a feature-length documentary on the horror genre, the history
of fans and filmmakers alike. He's taking a film crew with him to the
Flashback Weekend event later this month (scroll down for more on that)
to shoot it. The coolest part of all? Yours truly, the
Chief Archivist, is serving on the documentary as associate producer.
Kat Lester announced her latest musical project as well. She has a
swingin' new blues/jazz album. You can see what she's up to and preview
her songs at http://www.lekatmusic.com.
And what about Angus Scrimm and Reggie
Bannister? They're both starring together in the latest from filmmaker
Jim McKenney called Satan Hates You. Find out more at the film's official
website.
Phantasm Sphere Game
June 11, 2008
Several months back, I reported about a
crafty phan named Dennis Robinson developing his own
freeware Phantasmic game. You might recall that the game is played
from the POV of a silver sphere and that he had released some YouTube
footage of the training level which was set on the Red Planet.
Dennis has just given out an update on
his progress. He's nearly finished with the Morningside Mausoleum
environment (viewable below) and hopes that a 2-3 level demo will be
out by the end of summer. At the worst, we can expect it out at the end
of 2008. He plans to release the game for PC, Mac, X-Box 360 and Wii so
that everyone will have a chance to play. Does Dennis qualify for
"Phan-Of-The-Year" or what?
So until I hear further word from
Dennis (visit him at http://www.dennypoo.com),

Oblivion Coming Back to DVD
June 5, 2008
Some sites get all the luck. Fangoria broke news a few days ago
that Anchor Bay Entertainment is currently prepping a special edition
of Phantasm: Oblivion for release on August 26.
ShockTillYouDrop.com
has reported some unconfirmed supplements including a retrospective
documentary. Somehow, I seriously doubt that and would instead count on
something similar to what last year's Phantasm III DVD had, some fun
behind-the-scenes footage set to score music. I mean, with
Phantasmagoria already covering this film, why make a new documentary?
That's just my $.02. I would love to be wrong about this though.... I
simply don't think I am.
Phantasm.com blogger John Klyza
recently posted a
smashing article about the history of Oblivion's poster artwork. Be
sure to note his bad*ss custom artwork at the bottom of the entry. If
only that were real.... 'sigh'
BIGGEST Phantasm Reunion Ever
June 4, 2008
The end of June (27-29 to be
exact) will bring to Chicago's Flashback Weekend horror convention the
biggest lineup of Phantasm filmmakers in history. You've got Don
Coscarelli, A. Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Reggie Bannister, Kathy
Lester and Angus Scrimm.
I can hardly believe it myself. Do note that this is the third
convention A. Michael Baldwin has done in his entire life.... the
second being ten years ago to promote Oblivion and the first being
thirty years ago to promote the first Phantasm. This is an event not to
be missed!!!
